Milestone Academy Careers Fair – 26th April 2017

All Secondary and 6th form students at Milestone Academy enjoyed their annual Careers Fair. The event was very well supported by exhibitors from a wide range of organisations who offer education or support to young people with learning difficulties.

The event was made extra special as the Chief Executive Mr. Simon Beamish was at Milestone Academy during the morning and he made a special visit to the event.

This is the first year where students were involved in the event as exhibitors, promoting Milestone Post 16 and the Supported Internship project that was successfully launched in 2016 in collaboration with Kent Supported Employment.

Yeoman’s Landscaping were in full force and it was a pleasure to have former students attend the event sharing their experiences since leaving school. It gives our current students the opportunity to see how students from Milestone can develop further in their living and work related skills after leaving school. Other opportunities in the horticulture area were promoted by Spadeworks.

Local and Independent Specialist Colleges attended giving students and parents the opportunity to find out about provision after Milestone. There is a wide range on offer to the students and we were fortunate to have a large number supporting the event today.

Every year the event grows and a special thank you goes to the Ruskin Mill Trust for travelling from Gloucestershire to be with us.

There were also a large number of support services attending including the local Community Day Services, KCC Independent Travel Training, All Directions, Information Advice and Support Kent, Independence Homes and Home from Home Care Ltd.

Many families attended the event and the majority of the feedback was exceptionally positive regarding the range of providers available on the day.
