In Phase 2, Cubs has been running since April 2012. From September 2015 cubs was made available to all our pupils within Phase 2.

The group is comprised of a Cub leader Gemma, Mel, our Cub assistant leader and myself.

We are supported by our Teaching Assistants and without their help and enthusiasm Cubs would not be so successful.

We spend our time together on a Friday. During the morning we run sensory cubs and in the afternoon the rest of Phase 2 meet in our drama studio. Here we spend time junk modelling; singing camp fire songs; making marshmallow towers; playing games; encouraging new friendships and learning new skills such as different sports.

All the cubs are working towards badges that they can earn by completing activities and they will work on achieving these over the year. This academic year we have already successfully invested all 46 of our new cubs. We held our first cubs evening in which we gathered round a pretend camp fire and sang songs and all the cubs have already earned their disability badge, chef badge and swimming badges.

Cubs provides a great opportunity for the students to be involved in a movement that allows them to develop skills they show a particular interest in and form new friendships.

This year we are looking forward to celebrating Easter and St. George’s Day at our Local church in Ash and experiencing our first overnight camp outside on the school field in the summer.
