The therapy department consists of two qualified Speech and Language Therapists, one Speech and Language Therapy assistant, one Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Technician and one Signing Tutor.

Liz Skilton, Speech and Language Therapy Team Leader: 

Liz qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1998. Since that time she has worked with adults and children with learning disabilities. Liz has worked at Milestone Academy since September 2003. Liz completed her Master of Education in 2008. Liz’s areas of interest include collaboration and multiagency working, AAC and eating and drinking difficulties.

Julia Hayden, Speech and Language Therapist:

Julia qualified as a Speech & Language Therapist in June 2012 and came to Milestone Academy in September 2012. She has previously worked with adults with learning disabilities and children with autism. Julia’s areas of interest are Autistic Spectrum Disorder and eating and drinking needs. She is looking forward to getting to know the children and the school.

Tim Sibson, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant:

Tim has worked at Milestone Academy for eight years; he was a teaching assistant before starting as an SLT Assistant in 2009. Tim supports pupil’s communication in class and runs small groups. He is also involved in delivering signing and Communicate in Print training.

Terri Warren, AAC Technician:

Terri works with the SLT team for two days a week and is a teaching assistant the rest of the time. Her job involves creating AAC resources and supporting pupils to use them.

Jamie Weston, Signing Tutor:

Jamie started as a senior teaching assistant at Milestone Academy seven years ago. Jamie is a level 3 advanced tutor in Signalong and has been the signing tutor at Milestone Academy since 2007. Jamie provides signing training for teachers, teaching assistant, parents and carers. He also leads signing clubs for students and sign assisted assemblies across the school as well as 1:1 signing sessions and support for students.
