Dear parents and carers

You will remember that Mr Jones wrote to you fairly recently about his retirement which takes effect from the end of August this year. His eight-year tenure as Principal of Milestone has been one of tremendous success including two consecutive Ofsted outstanding inspections. Finding a worthy successor was always going to be difficult.

However, following a recent national recruitment search and interview process involving a wide range of senior staff and governors from Milestone and Leigh Academies Trust (LAT), I am pleased to report the appointment of a new Principal for Milestone with effect from 1st September 2021. The successful candidate is Mrs Sarah Goosani.

Mrs Goosani has been a senior leader within LAT since 2016. Her current position of Executive Principal, responsible for four LAT academies, two of which are outstanding, is superb preparation for taking on the demanding role at Milestone. Before that, she held various leadership positions within Kent County Council with a focus on inclusion. We are very confident indeed that Milestone will continue to thrive under her leadership and with the support of the highly talented staff team.

Commenting on her appointment, Mrs Goosani, said,

I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed to the position of Principal of Milestone. Ever since joining Leigh Academies Trust I have enjoyed a positive and close relationship with the leadership team and wider staff of the Academy, admiring the outstanding service they provide to children, young people and their families. Having a firm commitment to and foundation in inclusion, this moment is the pinnacle of my career. I am excited and look forward to meeting all the staff, pupils and families, and beginning the next phase of Milestone’s journey together.

Mrs Goosani now looks forward to introducing herself to staff, pupils and parents over the next few months as she transitions into her new role, supported by Mr Jones. Meanwhile, we remain tremendously grateful for all of your support and look forward to welcoming all pupils back soon as we hopefully move into better times following the worst of the Covid pandemic.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Beamish | Chief Executive
