Dear parents, carers and families,
As a result of the Prime Minister’s announcement this past Monday, I am pleased to share in this initial letter some headline points regarding our very welcome full return on Monday 8th March. A second letter will then follow next week by Wednesday 3rd March at the latest. This second letter will give a fuller picture of how we will return and then move forward together towards the start of our Easter break when term ends on Thursday 1st April.
As Simon Beamish (CEO of LAT) said in his letter dated 23rd February, we at Milestone Academy very much want to work with any families for whom this full return may be causing any anxiety. Thus, if this is the case, please contact your relevant Phase Director for an initial conversation next week i.e. the week beginning 1st March.
We are still working through and/or waiting for further specific SEN guidance on topics such as Lateral Flow testing for secondary aged pupils, wearing of masks in secondary classrooms etc. These and other aspects of our return will be covered in the follow-up letter that I mentioned in my opening paragraph.
In the meantime, there are two medical points I wish to make:
- If your child has received a shielding letter either recently or previously, please could you send us a copy to the email address: firstname.lastname@example.org, as soon as is practically possible after you receive this letter. For your information current guidance states ‘Those pupils and students who are clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) are currently advised not to attend whilst shielding remains in place’;
- If any aspect of your son / daughter’s medical treatment / medical support has changed since they were last in school, please could you notify us by using the following email address during next week: email@example.com.
We will then be in a position to update your child’s IHCP before they return to class.
School Lunches at our Leigh Academy and Wilmington Academy Satellites
The school kitchens at both the Leigh Academy and Wilmington Academy are not opening until Thursday 11th March, so all Milestone students that attend these satellites will need to bring in a packed lunch from the 8th to 10th March when attending. Lunches will be available as usual at all other satellites and our main site.
Finally, I wish to thank all families for their patience, understanding and collaboration over these very difficult weeks since we went into this new lockdown – that has been very much appreciated by myself and our entire Milestone Academy staff team. Equally, I am sure you would wish me to thank my colleagues who have been working with all pupils, either face to face and/or remotely together with those staff working in all our support services.
