Dear parents, carers and families

First of all, can I thank you all for your excellent collaborative approach to the ongoing responses to the COVID pandemic.  I also want to celebrate the manner in which our pupils, where they are able to, have worked with us with regard to applying all of these COVID rules.

I wanted to write to all parents, carers and families to say that whilst I am aware that the recent speech from the Prime Minister on 10th May 2021 pointed to the relaxing of face mask wearing across certain COVID measures, I am also aware of Department for Education (DFE), Scientific Group of Emergencies (SAGE) and Trade Union advice that points to a note of caution to schools when considering relaxing COVID mitigation measures.

Thus, I have decided, especially with two weeks left of this term, to keep our COVID mitigation measures in place including mask wearing across our estate, and of course this includes the satellites.  We have all come an extremely long way together and, by staying as we are for the next two weeks and then using the initial part of the half term break to assess where the COVID numbers are, I will be able to write to you again before we return to outline what COVID mitigation strategies will be in place for Term 6.

Therefore, I would ask all parents, carers and families who attend any site to please keep following our current procedures, including mask wearing and keeping to social distancing protocols.

Finally, I would urge all parents, carers and families who are able to, to continue the process of their son / daughter carrying out their twice weekly tests using the free lateral flow test kits that the school can supply.  If you are not already receiving these and would like to, please email

Thank you again for your co-operation and support in continuing to follow all the Leigh Academies Trust and Milestone Academy COVID-19 safety measures, to help us all to feel safer and more secure and confident whilst in the academy.

Yours faithfully

Nigel Jones | Principal
