Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to what we hope will be a much more stable academic year!  I hope that you and your families have had a good summer and that you are looking forward to the new term, starting on Wednesday 1st September. I have met many of you at pick up and drop off time over the course of the previous two terms and am very excited about meeting you all officially as the new principal and getting to know you and your children.

Arrival on first day of term

As always, we will have new bus timetables in place for this term, so we would ask that all parents who drop their child off themselves at the main site arrive at 9:10am on the first day of term (Wednesday 1st September) only, to allow the buses slightly more time for drop off first. After Wednesday can parents revert to the usual time of 9:00am.

If your child attends a Milestone satellite, information relating to start times will be sent out by the satellite staff.

We will continue to operate our existing drop off and exit system, using the additional designated entrances for different phases to enter the different parts of the building.  We will be continuing to maintain social distancing when possible, so please do continue to follow any signage and floor markings displayed outside the building.

Also, a reminder that our early finish time every Wednesday will be continuing at 2pm starting from the 1st September.

Please be aware that site works have unfortunately overrun into the start of term which means there will be some construction work in the car park when you arrive. This will result in a great new shelter for families to wait under but will not be completed by Wednesday. We would politely request that you follow the directions of staff on site if needed and that you drive with extra caution around the car park close to the sports centre.

Lateral Flow Testing at the start of term

Lateral Flow Testing will be available for some pupils in the first two weeks of term. A separate letter will be sent out regarding this.

Reminders from the Medical Team for the start of term

Medication:  We are now working in collaboration with KCHF NHS Trust Pharmacy and Special School Nursing Service.  All medication now has to be sent home at the end of each term.  We achieved most of this in July.  When returning medication to school on Wednesday 1st September, please make sure you are able to provide the following:

  • a signed and returned written consent form
  • Evidence of prescription – printed pharmacy label or FP10

Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs)We will be introducing a new format from the start of term.  It is really important that we follow the advice and guidance from health care professionals.  Please share reports and programmes with Sue Crawley and the school nurse via the email addresses below:

Update on works done on site

Over the summer holidays, a great deal of work has been carried out across our main site including:  replacing flooring in various areas (corridors and classrooms); new playground equipment, including canopies for pupil areas; a complete new fire alarm system; new CCTV cameras; and landscaping work to our secondary outdoor area.  Further playground equipment will be installed during the October break, including a couple of specialist tents (including a tee pee!) for pupils’ use.

Work has also taken place at Milestone @ Wilmington Academy, including replacing flooring and decoration of some areas.

I would like to close by saying that ALL pupils are welcome back at Milestone Academy from Wednesday 1st September irrespective of if they wish to test in school that week or in the future test at home or not at all, provided they are not displaying symptoms.  Myself and all of the team look forward to welcoming all pupils back for our new term, and working with you over the coming year.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Goosani
