At Leigh Academy Milestone our Speaking and Listening curriculum goes beyond being able to just communicate through speech. Our curriculum allows our students to become individuals who are able to communicate in different forms in an ever fast changing world. It is our view that speaking and listening goes beyond English lessons and should be incorporated in every lesson, allowing students the opportunity, despite their need or background, to acquire the skills needed to communicate effectively in order to have their needs met and become independent to the best of their ability. It is our intent to:

  • Enable students access to a broad and rich cross-curricular curriculum that embeds speaking and listening daily.
  • Encourage students to explore communication in a variety of forms.
  • Provide students with the life skills they need to be creative, explorative and be able to express themselves and their ideas effectively.
  • Equip our students with the knowledge they need to navigate interactions, in order to be heard not just in school, but beyond the classroom, within society.
