Liz has a Masters of Education in Supporting Children and Adults with Severe, Profound and Complex Needs.  Liz has a keen passion for speech & language therapy student education and is an experienced Practice Educator and for implementing SEND reforms to ensure all children’s needs are met.

Laura Williams, Speech & Language Therapist

Laura has worked at Milestone since 2016 and enjoys being a part of the friendly therapy team. Laura has previously worked within a special needs school, and a language unit within a mainstream setting, gaining experiences as a school based therapist. I have an interest in ASD and am interested in the unique way our children communicate.

Tim Sibson, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Tim has worked at Milestone since September 2002.  He worked as a Teaching Assistant until becoming a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant in 2009.  Tim completed the PECS Implementer certification in 2015 and leads on PECS throughout the school.

Tim supports the work of the speech & language therapists.  He works with individual pupils and small groups.  He particularly enjoys sensory stories, social skills work and supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.

Tim creates, monitors and supports various communication systems.  He provides training to staff to support the implementation of AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication), PECS and Communicate in Print.

Tim is available at the door most days at home time so many people know him there.  Tim loves dressing up so as a team we can always rely on him to make a big effort.

Jamie Weston, Signing Communication Tutor

Jamie has worked at Milestone Academy since 2004.  Jamie works as Senior Teaching Assistant (2 days a week) and Signing Communication Tutor (3 days a week).

Jamie’s work includes: sign support for children, signing training for families and staff.  Signing support for children may include 1:1 sessions or support in class. We run weekly signing club and often work towards performances to share our wonderful signing.

Jamie runs parent and family signing workshops and can also be available for individual signing sessions for families upon request.

Signing stations have been set up across the Milestone and Star Centre sites for easy access to signs for all staff and pupils.

We have a core signing vocabulary and body signing for our PMLD pupils. Milestone has published its own core signs manual that we commissioned from Signalong.

We offer sign assisted assemblies for special occasions.  For staff we have signs of the week, 5 signs training and regular foundation training and workshops.

There are various signing videos on the website.

You can use the Signalong Text-a-sign service for any signs you might need: 077446462146 – Text the word SIGN followed by the word you want. For example; if you need the sign for Hello, Text the number above with SIGN Hello. You will then receive a text from the Text-a-sign service with a description of the sign. You can get up to 4 free signs per month with this service.

Terri has worked at Milestone Academy since 2007, and joined the therapy team in 2009. Terri works with the speech & language therapy team for two days a week and is a teaching assistant the rest of the time.
