Specialist Nursery

Places are allocated through a North Kent Multi Agency Panel once they have been advised by either a Dartford Early Years Specialist Teacher, Sevenoaks Specialist Teacher/Milestone Outreach or Portage.

Once allocated a place children can access the nursery via various pathways for an assessment period of two terms. During this time the nursery works closely with parents, their dual placement and other multi agency professionals supporting the child. During their time with us regular discussions take place about the additional support a child might need during their current and next phase of education. If an EHCP is thought necessary and has not already been applied for this is initiated within the time frame of the specialist placement. The nursery works closely with other County Specialist Nurseries as well as local nurseries to ensure that our judgements are accurate.

Within our foundation classes the curriculum is delivered through a three-year topic plan, influenced by the young children’s interests; the focus for the work changes every term but incorporates the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework for each of the key areas, with priority being given to the three prime areas:

A supportive environment is very important to the pupils and their families attending our nursery and is paramount to their successful learning. Our nursery pupils have access to a stimulating inside and outside area within the campus of Cherry Orchard Primary on the Castle Hill Estate close to Ebbsfleet.

We ensure our staff are highly trained and will use a wide variety of resources and strategies to support a child’s learning and in turn support and train practitioners within the wider education community.
